HA9 Wembley

Wembley is part of the Greater London borough of Brent Wembley (and Brent in general) is now one of the most culturally diverse places in Europe with over 90 languages spoken. 12 minutes to central London, Wembley attracts many city workers and students who attend the local colleges and university. Wembley offers excellent entertainment and places of interest including the Swaminarayan temple and the new Wembley Stadium. The area is currently undergoing major urban redevelopment including a revamped tube station, new shopping mall, multi cinema complex, hotels and modern housing

There are also plans for a major regeneration of the Wembley area. Quintain Estates and Development plc (QED) is planning to create an international leisure destination to complement the new stadium development, along with new homes, shops, bars and restaurants. The development will include the Wembley Arena, Conference Centre and numerous other buildings

The new Wembley will be a place where people are proud to live and keen to visit — a place that will be enjoyed by local people and visitors alike - a place that transforms the local economy by providing a range of new jobs for local people

The council's Vision is to create a new Wembley — a national and international destination, a key contributor to the London economy and the vibrant heart of the London Borough of Brent. The delivery of Brent Council's ambitious and exciting Vision is a significant challenge, requiring commitment from many partners. The support of the Mayor of London has been especially crucial, as has the funding and influence of the London Development Agency and the participation, enthusiasm and innovation of the major landowners and developers and the local community.

The Vision proposes to create a new Wembley, setting out a radical blueprint for the future of the area. The proposals included a range of new facilities — from music venues, high quality retailing, cafes and bars to hotels, universities, a new civic centre and conferencing facilities.

Just over two years on from the launch of Brent Council's Vision for a new Wembley, much has happened. The new Wembley Stadium is well on the way to completion, improvements are underway to the infrastructure and transport, including each of Wembley's three stations, and work has started on Quintain Estates and Development plc's ambitious £1.3 billion development of 42 acres of land surrounding the new stadium.

The London Development Agency also launched a competition inviting people to name the new state-of-art footbridge, designed by Marks Barfield, architects of the London Eye. The bridge, which will open onto a new square, is part of a major upgrade to Wembley Stadium Station, and will help to link the new Stadium to Wembley High Road.
